Got Muscular Dystrophy & I wanna live by myself [California] so I can do what 21yr olds do... party?

no,the truth: I want to take some burden off my parents shoulders to let them be at ease about my future. I would need assistance daily, costly right? I also get very exhausted when I have to go to school or work on a daily basis. I don't know if i am being lazy or if i am really tired. I asked my doctors about the lazy thing but they don't understand what that feels like. Please don't tell me to have faith and believe in Jesus cuz Im sick of hearing that from my christian freak aunty. She did a lot of crap in her life, she found god, $100s/month bye bye, she wants to convert people. I respect christian belief, just not the way my aunty is. I want to grow old w/open mind&repect other religion. Sorry, anyways, help w/independent living? Someone thats been through it? Problems you faced & how you delt w/it? government weirdos to watch out for? Job options (I want to work with animals but im not studious type, or join FBI, CIA)? How does traveling (to Japan) work if I need assistance?

I am assuming you are in the USA?
I don't know the answer to your question regarding living independently and getting the daily support. You need to look into your local governement as to what is available in terms of support resources, funding, somebody to assist with case co-ordination etc.

Are you using a powerchair now or not yet? I assume you are - since I know of NO ONE who is 21 with MD and NOT using a wheelchair.

You mentioned "I want to work with animals but im not studious type, or join FBI, CIA)? How does traveling (to Japan) work if I need assistance?" How do you think about such job option for a person is a wheelchair who will needs constant help? Do you think FBI and CIA are going to hire you? I hope you are only joking. Because the reality is... they won't.
Working with animals? Possibly, but are you strong enough now to pick them up or even hold them?
From all my experience, the lucky guys who got themselves some sort of employment (all part time), they work in an office. Using keyboard and computer are usually better for someone with your condition.

I don't think Y!A will have any answer for you. I suggest you talk with someone in the local community services and employment agencies regarding your future plan of living on your own and finding a job. But even if there are nojobs, think outside the square - there may be something worthwhile you can also engage your time.

Hope this gives you some positive thought and encouragement.
