Why so much about WEIGHT? What about muscle???


I'm so sick of hearing about how much one should "weigh" when I'm 5'9", have guys (and some chicks) drooling over me, I'm a size 6-10 (depending on the brand) and weigh 170, but its muscle. My bodyfat is 18%. For a chick, thats good/great! I wish the media would start to recognize this. I work out a lot, and I'm as strong as any chick can be, and I'm up there lifting "dude" weight, without looking like a female body builder, just a tight strong yet curvy chick. Anybody have any thoughts on this? I"d rather look like I do now than what I looked like when I was 5'9", and 97lbs and had an eating disorder.....

Your right. If you go to a doctors office and ask to see a weight chart. It will say that someone of my height 6-2 with a large build should weigh 175 - 185 lbs. They dont account for the fact that muscle weighs twice as much as fat. I dont think I could ever get my weight that low without killing myself. Not everyone has the same body make up.

i totally agree with you. i used to be 5'3 and 98 pounds and never ate but not im 5'5 and 115 pounds and eat whatever i want. i still look good and plus, i get to eat :] i actually want to gain even more weight in muscle!

I don't have a problem with your weight. You sound fit & healthy......good for you & I always admire a lady who keeps herself in good shape.

Speaking of, "and some chicks" wink wink, let me see a picture. haha just kidding. Nah I would kill to have your body, seriously! I am 5'7 and weigh too much. : ( and its not muscle.

Congratulations on your healthy weight and overcoming the eating disorder. A healthy body is so much more attractive than a boney one. And better for your overall health.

I just read an article in a well known respected magazine that talked about body mass index. Did you know it was created a very long time ago? Like around 1900? More and more experts are concluding that the bmi scale is useless. You can have 4 different women, side by side and be different heights and sizes and shapes, but they scored the same bmi. Since bmi doesn't take into consideration of muscle, it should be phased out.
The best thing is that you know you are healthy now. People need to become more comfortable and proud to be in the body they are in. There needs to be less focus on weight and more on healthy eating.

i think that is fine, i am 5'8 and i weigh 153 pounds, and i am healthy and muscley too i feel your pain, but the doctor says that i am perfect for my hieght and weight are in sync...so we are fine...dont know my body fat rate...

Don't worry about the media or what the height/weight charts say. With only 18% body fat which is in the athletic range, you know you are very fit and lean and that's all that should matter to you.
