What are the long term effects of regular sleep deprivation and interrupted sleep?

I sleep a very irregular schedule and I would like to know how it could be affecting my physical and mental health.
Details; I work 7pm to 7am, a couple days on then a couple days off. The days I work I get 5 to 6hrs sleep durring the day after sending the kids to school. On my days off I sleep around my family life. So I live about a 34 hour day with a 1 to 3 hour nap about half way through when I go from work nights to family days, 3 times in 2 weeks. On my days off I get 4 hours of sleep. Then I'll be up for 2 hours while I get my kids up and off to school. Followed by 3 more hours of sleep to get 7 per day. My wife has Fibromyalgia (a muscle disorder requiring uninterupted sleep while also making sleep dificult) and other disabilities, which is why It's best for me to get up the kids. She does what she can for me. And finally on my every other weekend off I get to sleep in untill the kids get me up I doubt it compensates for the other 12 days.

Sleep is essential, and good sleep. if you don't get it you will be more anxious, get sick more and heal more slowly. You can't really compensate but it is good to get what you can. maybe a change of lifestyle is needed?
