Mumps at 17 years old?!?

I'm 17 and I got mumps (don't you get them when you're a little kid?), how many weeks does it take to heal and is it a bad idea to go out maybe 3 days after the symptoms? If I don't lay in bed for weeks, will it complicate?

Mumps is usually a childhood disease. In adult men; they have other complications.

I had the mumps when I was 9 or 10.

It happens, nothing major. If you don't get it as a kid than your immune system doesn't know how to fight it off. Did you just get vaccinated, because that could be one cause.

Mumps is a viral infection, is very contagious as it is spread in the saliva, sneezing and coughing. Unfortunately it has a very long incubation period so anyone who comes in contact with you while you have it won't know for 14 to 16 days whether they have it. Approximately 14 days after you are diagnosed I would check with your doctor before you mix socially.
Also, it has been known to cause sterility in males.
