Multiple sclerosis and tummy tuck?

Is it advisable for a 42 year old female who has multiple sclerosis and takes Betaseron to have a "tummy tuck"? Only serious people please respond.

MS should not impact your ability to take part in elective surgery. There aren't any symptoms of MS that would contraindicate having the surgery. Basically, MS won't make your surgery any worse.

The only thing that would concern me is taking your injections near your incision site. You will need to discuss with your surgeon when you can start injecting into your belly again; until then, you will have to skip your belly in your rotation of shot locations. I wouldn't want to introduce anything that could cause infection into that area.

I love responding after CJ! He is right on target! Do discuss this with your neuro!! He/she can give you the information that is pertinent to you!

Tummy Tuck also known as Abdomenoplasty it is used to remove extra skin from the abdomen area. It is quite safe surgery. For risks and complications please visit the source.

There is always a risk of an exacerbation with surgery and MS. Weigh the risk vs. benefit and talk with your neuro and others docs.
Good luck.

The real issue that exists with MS patients and surgery is not the surgery, but the ANESTHESIA. If you are serious about pursing this, as soon as you speak with your plastic surgeon...speak with the anesthesiologist who will be in on your case. ..they can address the real complications and concerns related to MS patients undergoing surgical interventions.
