Pregnancy and multiple sclerosis?

is there anyone out there who has had a child fathered by someone who has multiple sclerosis? Are there any known hereditary problems? Risk Factor?

"Effects of Pregnancy on MS: Prior to 1950, most women with MS were counseled to avoid pregnancy because of the belief that it might make their MS worse. Over the past 40 years, many studies have been done in hundreds of women with MS and they have almost uniformly reached the opposite conclusion. Pregnancy appears to have a relatively protective effect on women with MS. The number of MS exacerbations is reduced during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters. An exacerbation鈥攁lso known as an attack, relapse, or flare鈥攊s a sudden worsening of an MS symptom or symptoms, or the appearance of new symptoms, which lasts at least 24 hours and is separated from a previous exacerbation by at least one month."

"Please remember that individual situations will override these general rules:

The risk of eventually developing MS for any baby in the general population: approximately 1:750

The risk for a baby when one parent has MS: approximately 1:40. In other words, the MS risk is increased and yet 1 out 40 is generally considered to be a relatively low risk."

I am a child who's father has m.s. and they say it isn't hereditary but i guess know they are saying that its easy for a father to pass it to his daughter. And that scares my dad.
If this is the scenario that the father of your kid has ms Good Luck truly!! Report It

Exacerbation rates may rise in 1st 3-6 mos postpartum, & the risk of relapse in the postpartum period is est. to be 20-40%. These relapses don't appear to contribute 2 increased long-term disability. Report It

The average person in the US has about a one in 750 chance to develop MS. When a parent has it, that increases it to between one in 100 to one in 40. I'm a guy, with no kids, but I know a little about MS. I was diagnosed last May. MS is more common in people of northern European ancestry, and twice as likely to occur in women. About 400,000 people in the US are believed to have it. No one knows what triggers it to develop, but it is believed to be a combination of genetic, environmental and/or viral triggers. I am the first person on either side of my family to have been diagnosed, so genetics isn't a guarantee either way. Hope this helps!

my aunt has ms and her aunt had ms. from what i've heard, it is passed down through the family.
