Multiple Myeloma life span?

How long do patients with Multiple Myeloma live on an average? The patient is 82 yrs old and frail

Average survival depends on the stage of the disease, which is determined by various lab values (see the first source below for more details). As for the patient you mention, it is very difficult to predict an individual person's survival, since it depends on so many other factors, such as response to treatment, other medical conditions, and will to live, among other things. The information below can only give you a rough idea, but don't be surprised if the patient's doctor does not want to give you an exact number. No one ever knows for sure. Hope this helps.

That's the one question nobody can answer, but I have to suggest it sounds like "not long", especially at that age, and with no physical reserves to hold it back. If the patient was younger, perhaps there would be treatments available to prolong life, but it all boils down to "quality of life". I doubt an 82 yr. old would want to go through all that, but that's a personal thing.

Hi, I agree with the first answer. It depends on what stage the MM is at and how the person responds to the treatments. Along with MM the patient may experience other problems--as with any disease. Some people live years with it, and some don't. My dad was 81 and only knew he had it for 6 months, but that's just his case. Older age does have it's disadvantage, but in his instance, he didn't respond to any of the treatments. I hope all works out for you and you are in my thoughts and prayers. I know it's a tough time.
