Multiple Myeloma !!!!? |
My dad passed away recently from multiple myeloma. "They" keep saying this is a very rare disease. I'm not sure I believe that. I have come to know a few people recently that have been diagnosed with this disease. My dad worked around a lot of chemicals. If you have experienced knowing someone who has this uncurable disease, do you think that working around chemicals is relevent to this disease? I am very very sorry for your loss ,My father in law died from the same 'Multiple Myeloma' 7 years ago.what you have been told is absolutely correct it is a very rare form of cancer about 6% of cancers are of this type,it is also (as I am sure you know) one of the most horrible. As to your other point about chemicals my father in law never worked in that area, it really has nothing to do with it .Give yourself time and you will come to terms with it ,at the moment it is all so unfair and un just.try to think and see your father as he was when healthy,it will help ,I wish you all the very best keep your chin up and you will get through it. Sorry to hear about your Dad...Less then 1% of people who get any disease get Multiple Myeloma and I suppose for that reason it's considered rare. Working around chemicals is a big risk factor as well as working around radioactive materials. I know I may sound like a lawyer, but I'm not, but I'd look into the safety procedures in the area he worked. It's a disease of the blood and often can go undetected for years, but can be caught with blood, or urine test. Treatable protocalls include bone morrow transplant and chemo. Quality of life is what the Dr's strive for. The treatments are as rough as the disease. One of my woman friends just died of Cruz-Felt Jacob's disease, a very rare brain disorder. She was only one of three in the country to die from it in the last 15 years. She was only 37 y/o. |
