Periodic Limb Movement Disorder in children?

Does anyone know how I could find out if my son suffers from PLMD?

I would have him tested for sleep apnea first. It is very overlooked and can be a giant cause of PLMD. I suffer from it too, and it is caused by my sleep apnea. I currently take neurontin to help ease it. Im waiting on my appt with the sleep clinic. Good Luck

Im responding to the idiot below me who called me pathetic, my son did have sleep apnea, and it is very real in children and adults!!

you gotta be kiding
movement disorders is a whole science by itself, you will not only need a neurologist but an EXPERIENCED neurologist specialized in Movement Disoredres to rule in/out such a diagnosis
This diagnosis PLMD is very non spcific.
if the situation is serious, u may need to go to Mayo clinic (no kidding).
loook at the explanation from the lady above, how pathetic ! sleep apnea in a child/teenager???

A sleep study will show and measure movements during sleep, most PLM is during sleep although I have it at times during the day if I get tired. In the old days it was called nocturnal myoclonic jerks. Go to http://www.wemove.org/myo/

Then go to an accredited sleep clinic - if PLM is proven then I would start with either a sleep doctor with a neurology background or just go to a neurologist.

Good Luck! (It's a pain in the butt kind of thing to have to deal with)
