Severe digestive disorders when quitting the lethal cigs? |
can anyone help? I have been trying to quit smoking off and on for over 4 years now but everytime i do i can not get over the first week due mainly to severe digestive problems that start after roughly 12 hours. AS soon as this clicks in I find it difficult to work or doing anything without severe pain...my bowel appears to cut off completely and sometimes i have lasted for over 5 days without any bowel movement. Ive told my doc and she says its because i dont allow withdrawel properly ...and i agree....as I always relieve the constipation having suffered usually for a couple of days with smoking....lol im 35 and have been diagnosed as having ibs..though these symptoms only occur when i lay off tobacco for more than 12 hours... ive tried everything to keep it working during this detox process but all has failed..inc fruit veg...buckets of water...oj....porridge....fibre....low fibre....but it ALWAYS happens :( maybe you are chewing too much chewing gum i know it sounds daft but it could be that. try taking some ex lax. Try a bowl of Bite Size Shredded Wheat before bed or breakfast. you might ask your doctor to refer you to a rehab center. they are trained for this. You might also talk to your doctor about starting exlax or some prescription drug the day before you deside to detox yourself. if fundage is low then ask about state funded programs or low income programs or something. There are always options though. good luck Have you tried nicotine replacement or would you prefer to go clean? Try drinking lots of cold water. psyllium husks, prunes and all the natural things. physically try raising your feet on a stool( pardon the pun) or a box as this helps when 'trying to go'. Cigarettes stimulate the digestive system so quitting them will cease this stimulation. You will need to find an alternative way for your bowels to move! Try a mild laxative or eat more fibre at the time you are giving up! now i no why i am getting constant heart burn and am the opposite but am on week three you have just got to keep thinking of no smell of smoke nice clean mouth and your nails get stronger. o yes plus your wrinkles if have anay fade/ sex/ /drive/ yeh that's much better lol dont think this will help but might make you think about the next time you put one of the devils sticks in your mouth Try increasing you water intake because water is a natural laxative and try increasing your excessive because this releases endorphins which make you happy and excessive helps relieve stress so if you are happy and not stressed then your bowels will be happier to work properly. I quit in November 2006 after smoking for 14 years @ 2 pks per day and I ate a lot of tootsie rolls and red licorice, no patches or anything, and I exercised for about 4 hours a day so I know how hard it is to quit just stick with it and your body will follow. Good Luck!!!!!!!! This is a common problem and one that stops many people from stopping smoking. You were constipated all along but the cigarettes disguised the fact as they stimulate the peristaltic action which moves the waste along in your colon. Best way to deal with it is to have a course of colonics, supplement with Lepicol (from all health food shops) which will make your faeces softer, and a herbal colon cleanser which is designed to both assist cleansing and tone the colon muscle (although nothing from Holland and Barrett as they are all useless). It will probably take you around 3 -6 months to re-educate your bowel. |
