What would cause a person to need twelve hours of sleep or more per night?

i had a sleep study which reveals severe periodic limb movement disorder but have been prescribed mirapex. it hasn't changed my need to sleep

There are many reasons...the first to come to mind is anxiety and depression. Hypersomnia (prolonged sleeping) can also be caused by fibromyalgia (which is another possibility considering your limb movement disorder), sleep apnea (which would have shown up in the sleep study), and genetics. If things keep up, you may want to ask your doctor to prescribe you a mild antidepressant.

Best of luck!

i only sleep like four hours a nite maybe five

It could be psychological depression, it happens all the time, sleep is the ideal time for your subconscious to start playing and showing u what u need via dreams, it's essential for life, it's a runaway from all the trouble in the world.

it could be physical, fatigue, carrying out heavy work.

I think u did the right thing going to a doctor.
