I keep getting thrush-like lesions inside my cheeks and mouth. What disorders are associated with this?

I used to get thrush when I would take antibiotics for other conditions.

Many different things...too many to list, but here's a link to the list of possibilities on a site I use frequently.

In my case I have Lupus (SLE) and Sjogren's syndrome that cause this. Good luck. I hope that link helps.

Either way, be sure to mention this to your doctor...especially if this happens frequently. Also try to see if they are more common after eating specific foods...like Werther's candies always give me sores in my mouth. Must be the way they react with my body...too bad they're so good!

It is probably a yeast infection. In small children it is referred to as thrush. A yeast infection is caused by yeast spores which are present just about everywhere, and incubate rather quickly when exposed to a warm, moist environment. The two most common causes are 1- oral sex and 2- consumption, or rather over-consumption, of soft drinks. Symptoms will be a whitish film on the tongue, 'sinus problems', and an itching discomfort in the mouth, gradually reaching down into the throat region which is caused by constant swallowing of the yeast infection. Cures: 1- abstinence until the infection is cleared up with the proper medication, 2- moderate the intake of soft drinks.

Oral candidiasis is also associated with some immunodeficiencies even HIV

GREETINGS, some medications can cause the lesions, so can stomach acid that backs up in your mouth, yeast infections, lupus, and a few other conditions. Have you been tested for yeast first off?

Those sores are nasty, I have lupus and I get them alot. There is a mouthwash sold called Prevention that helps prevent them and when you have them the best way to heal them is gargling and swishing salt water mixed with pop as that cleans the mouth and throat well, and then there is a mouthwash that is prescription called C-BMX, it's a mixture of lidocaine, maalox, benedryl that helps numb and heal them. Zilactin is a toothache swab over the counter that you can put directly on the spot to numb them good.

Avoid saucy foods, spicy foods, and sugary foods, sugar feeds yeast and the other 2 burn and make the sores fester.

You need some blood work to find out why you are getting them.

Thrush is an infection of the mouth caused by the candida fungus, also known as yeast. Candida infection is not limited to the mouth; it can occur in other parts of the body as well, causing diaper rash in infants or vaginal yeast infections in women.

Thrush can affect anyone, though it occurs most often in babies and toddlers, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems.

What Causes Thrush?

Small amounts of the candida fungus are present in the mouth, digestive tract, and skin of most healthy people and are normally kept in check by other bacteria and microorganisms in the body. However, certain illnesses, stress, or medications can disturb the delicate balance, causing the fungus candida to grow out of control, causing infection.

Medications that upset the balance of microorganisms in the mouth and may cause thrush include corticosteroids, antibiotics, and birth control pills. Illnesses or medical situations that make candida infection more likely to develop include uncontrolled diabetes, HIV infection, cancer, dry mouth, or pregnancy (caused by the hormonal changes that occur with pregnancy). People who smoke or wear dentures that don't fit properly also are at increased risk for thrush. In addition, babies can pass the infection to their mothers during breast-feeding.
