Daughter puts fingers in people's mouths? |
My 8-year-old step-daughter has a bad habit of putting her fingers in people's mouths. For example, when she was younger and would sit in someone's lap, she would put her fingers in their mouth. If they asked her to stop, she would stop but eventually start rubbing their lips and try to put her fingers in. Now, when she plays with our dog, she will carry him around and put her fingers in his mouth constantly. I have to tell her to stop, because it's really annoying to the dog and for me to watch. Is this some kind of psychological disorder? My husband seems to think it's no big deal, but I think it's really weird. seems to me she gets some kind of comfort from doing this, I am guessing that she is missing something in her life from being very young maybe when her mum and dad split up or what ever happened. Hopefully she will grow out of it but if you think that she could do with a little therapy to help along the way that maybe a good idea. Just go to the doctor and he will be able to help set things up. Or you could just wait and see if she grows out of it as a bad habit. don't think its to much to worry about but you are a good step-mum to be thinking of how you can help. take care good luck. This is probably something she will grow out of, just keep reminding her not to do it. I doubt in a few years when she is 12 she will still be doing this. Maybe she has anxiety disorder or something. Let her chew on something like special teething toys. I know she is a big girl, but maybe she is still missing dummies or something and soing it for comfort. How did that all start? |
