Overcoming motion/car sickness?

Is there any kind of self-training methods to overcome motion sickness? I commute on a shuttle bus everyday for work. I am on the bus for at least an hour each way. I would like to read but I can't because I get so nauseous. I do not want to take any medication because they all make me sleepy.

Any advice?

I never had motion sickness before I took a bus tour. I sat in the middle, back and front of the bus. nothing was helping and like you I didn't want to take stuff that made me sleepy. That would have been kind of stupid on a bus tour, pay all that to sleep through it. Anyway, the tour director suggested that I take some ginger capsules and/or drink ginger ale (ever wonder why it is served on planes and not a major beverage like Coke, Sprite or Dr. Pepper). Well, it worked wonders and I finished the trip in great shape. Since then I have never traveled without ginger caps or some ginger ale, sometimes both. I don't even have a problem riding roller coasters anymore............ YEA!
Good Luck.

I use acupressure when feeling motion sickness:

Ginger supplements are said to help as well but I haven't used them.

You can also buy wristbands at most pharmacies.

Buy Dramamine in any store where over the counter medicines are sold.

My son has a real problem with this, and they make wristbands (I think they are called Sea Bands) that have a little button at the correct site for acupressure (on the inside of your wrist, below your index finger), and he also likes to chew a tiny piece of crystallized ginger (also great for morning sickness). We also found a great med in the UK, called "Joy Rides" that worked well for him. Homeopathic Tobaccum is also reported to work for some people. You could also maybe try getting headphones and listening to your book....
