Mosquito Bites all over???

Apparently mosquitos think I taste good. I live in Houston (which is basically a swamp) where mosquito populations explode in the summer. I get, on average, 5 or 6 bites a day. Is there anything I can do to prevent bites? Keep in mind I have a real job so I can't spray myself with repellant or eat garlic or wash my clothes in some funky detergant.

Lets see, no spray, no garlic no funky detergent. What's left? When outdoors, wear light clothing that covers most of the body, keeping as much of the skin and hair covered as practical. Avoid bright, floral colors. Khaki, beige, and olive have no particular attraction for mosquitoes. They are also attracted by some body odors, and for this reason they choose some individuals over others in a crowd. Avoid fragrances in soaps, shampoos, and lotions. All other things being equal, mosquitoes will choose children as their victims rather than adults. Many species of mosquito prefer biting from dusk until dawn. The problem is worse when the weather is hot or humid. Avoid being outdoors during the peak biting times in your area. Citronella candles? It would, of course, also help for one to stay away from still water.

Some studies suggest that taking thiamine (vitamin B1) 25mg to 50 mg three times per day is effective in reducing mosquito bites. This safe vitamin apparently produces a skin odor that is not detectable by humans, but is disagreeable to pregnant mosquitoes (Pediatric Clinics of North America, 16:191, 1969). It seems to be especially effective for those people with large allergic reactions. Thiamine takes about 2 weeks before the odor fully saturates the skin.

As for the West Nile problem, you are probably immune to it by now!

Haha i get bit on AVG 47 times when im out for 30mins... yes there are some soaps that dont smell bad and keep them away so .

It depends on where the bites are coming from....

If it's at home, I'd recommend using citronella candles - they come in a variety of sizes, and are excellent for driving away the pesky biters.

If it's at work, the best I can say is get Deep Woods Off in a stick form, thus avoiding the problem of smelly sprays.

Outside of spraying there isn't any magic potion
you can use. There is a new product on the market that dries after it is used so it won't leave an oily residue on your skin. I think it is made by the company that makes Off. I would think you would consider spraying just to protect yourself
from West Nile Virus.

In order to reduce the risk of being bitten:

Apply insect repellent containing DEET (N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide) when outdoors during mosquito season. Read the precautions of the product carefully since these products can irritate the eyes, etc.

Wear shirts with long-sleeves, long pants, a hat, shoes, and socks when outdoors. Use of mosquito netting is also recommended in areas with higher concentrations of mosquitoes. Spray repellent on clothing because mosquitoes will bite through thin clothing.

Wear light colored clothing, since dark colored clothes attract more mosquitoes.

Avoid wearing scented products. Perfumes, etc. will attract mosquitoes.

Avoid times when these insects are more likely to bite such as early morning and evenings.

Reduce the number of mosquitoes in outdoor areas by emptying sources of standing water. Mosquitoes lay their eggs and breed in these areas.
