Mosquito bites - permanent scarring?

Hello-
Recently I was in Cuba and, obviously, I acquired many mosquito bites. There is one in particular on the front of my left calf that I couldn't stop itching (it would form into a scab and I would pick off the scab, then the scab would reform and I would pick it off again, etc), and three weeks later it's formed into a fairly deep, fairly large hole (it's heart-shaped) with a black scabby layer on top. This black layer came off really easily after I had a shower and hardly bled, unlike before when it would bleed tons after I scratched it. I've put a bandage on top to make me stop touching it. My other mosquito bits have shrunken and are fading away. Will this turn into a nasty scab? How do I stop myself from picking at it?

Sounds more like a tick bite.

Added: Use bendryl cream. Keep an eye on it, I don't know what of the tick borne diseases they have in Cuba. And it may leave a scar. After it heals, use some of the balms made to lessen scars.

It is possible to leave a scar. I get eaten up in the summer, and I have a little pok-mark or two on my legs from itching too much. Just keep that in mind any time you're tempted to scratch :)

You need to see a dermatologist. It may have become infected. For future reference, vinegar wiil stop a bite from itching.

I think CP is right.
It does sound like a tick bite.
