Can you get Mononucleosis from an infected person's coughing?

Today I had a client in my office for over an hour. He kept coughing and coughing during the meeting. As he left he complained he hadn't been able to work all week because he has Mononucleosis.

My questions are:

1) How contagious is mono? He coughed throughout the meeting in MY office.

2) Am I at risk?

3) How long can mono germs survive on surfaces? As soon as he left, I disenfected everything he touched, but I am still freaked out.

Also, at work I drink out of Propel water bottles. With the twist on nipples (see http://www.propelwater.com/why_propel/ca...

I drank out of my Propel bottle during the meeting while he was coughing so his germs might have gotten onto the bottle's nipple.

I am very concerned.

Please don't cut and paste information on mono that is readily available on any internet search engine.

I want my three specific questions answered, so I will award the 10 points to the person who provides the answers to my
3 questions.

I am upset that sick, contagious people expose other people to their illness without warning!

Many of my clients have weak immune systems and I would hate to have them get mono from being my office; that's why I want to know how long the mono germ/virus can last on a surface.

Thank you!!

1. Mono is quite contagious. Also called as "kissing disease" as it was traditionally seen to spread via close personal contact. However, it is a viral illness & is air borne

2. Absolutely!

3. Like any virus, once the secretions dry, the virus within it usually dies. So once the cough / breath spills dry out, the virus dies. Besides, if you disinfected your office, then you should be fine depending on what you disinfected with.

"The virus can be transmitted in other ways, such drinking from the same glass or can as an infected person, or even being close when the person coughs or sneezes" See the link.

one its contagious..but there are two different kinds..there is the kind you can get from kissing someone doorknobs etc..but there is also the airborne kind....since he didnt say which he had...i would call him and ask him to be quite honest...i would hope he would know he shouldnt be in public at all if he had that type...i think you disinfecting everything will be fine ...you should get some germx. so any coughing people can use it before using pens or anything else in common in your office

edit:i didnt realize there were two different kinds..until i interviewed someone for a job and they called the next day to tell me they had mono but they were waiting for the results to come back as to which type they had..needless to say i freaked out....she didnt have the airborne kind thank goodness..but my brother had mono as a kid..out of nine kids he was the only one that had it if that tells you anything...being clean and trying to prevent it does help
