im 14, my names chris and my doctors thinks i might have mono. what i wanna know is if i do have it after it stops affecting me can i still pass it on.
bc i know its nickname is the kissing disase and i plan on kissing other ppl concitering the fact im only 14 and have alot longer to live. anything u have to say will help.

Mono is a virus that can be passed to others through saliva, blood and tears and rarely coughing. It is caused by the Epstein Barr Virus.
You can gargle with warm salt water, drink plenty of fluids, get plenty of rest and avoid anything strenuous like gym class until you get feeling better.
Like other virus' it stays with you even after your symptoms go away, but is only catchy to others when/if it goes active. Yes, you may give it to others, but it is unlikely. Most people get it once, feel bad for 4-6 weeks, then go on to live like normal without getting sick again. Being sick is no fun, but you will be better soon.

In the meantime, rest plenty, drink plenty of fluids, take tylenol or ibuprofen as directed and do not do anything strenuous. Report any dizziness, pain, rapid heart beat, shortness of breath, tenderness or swelling under left rib area, bruising, etc. to your doctor. Rarely, a person's spleen can enlarge and cause problems. Those are the symptoms to watch for.

You will feel like you have the flu--achy, tired, extreme sort throat and all those charming symptoms. Take this time to really rest up. When you feel better, you will be unlikely to give it to anyone. In the future, when you feel sick, you will just not kiss someone else, the same as you would do any time you are sick. This will reduce the likelihood of passing it on.

Feel better soon. Relax and do what your doctor says and you will be fine. This is a virus--not the end of the world, promise.

WebMD and MayoClinic. com, as well as yahoohealth are all good resources for good health info. Check it out and you won't feel so scared. You will be okay.

Have your doc do the monospot test so you know for sure if you have it. It is transmitted through saliva, so not just kissing, you can spread it by coughing, sneezing or even sharing beverages. Most people have developed immunity to it from being exposed to it when they were young.. You're really only contagious for a few weeks, so avoid sharing things and kissing people until you know for sure.

My son had it when he was your age- I remember we had to be very careful that he didn't take a hard hit to his abdomen during the month it was active- your liver can be severly damaged if its hit hard. He is turning 22 tomorrow and leads an active normal life- and he kisses his girlfriend- a lot !!! You'll be fine if you follow doctors orders and make sure you get plenty of rest- good luck sweety!!!

You will not always be contagious. After a few weeks and the systems disappear you will be fine and be able to go about your daily dose of kissing.

Once you are clear of the infection, you'll have a normal life. And you won't pass it on to others.

And yes, you'll be able to kiss without putting others at risk.

Make sure to follow the doctor's advice on resting and eating well to help the recovery.

Take care!
