Reoccuring Mononucleosis?

I have had Mono twice so far- in 2004 and 2006 and i am 42, I believe I might have it again. Why is this occuring? Also, will the antibody blood test always be positive for me, or, when the virus resolves, does the antibody test turn negative. Thanks

I also had mono before and think I have it now. Well, at least up until today I was sure I had it again and my test was negative. Sometimes, the test shows a negative in the very beginning and will show up positive days later. If you still show the same mono type symptoms 2 weeks from now, they may do an esptein barr test in addition to the mono test. You may have the esptein barr virus that is dormated in your system. The strange thing about catching mono the first time around is that the virus itself is dormat in our throat and blood but can occur at certain times in our saliva even when the test shows up negative or with and without symptoms.

The best thing you can do especially since viral infections are best treated with rest, plenty of fluids, and did I mention rest and ceast all activity. If you have a sore throat ask for a antibiotic. My doctor just told me that even though my strep test came back negative it doesn't mean there aren't other straph-like bacteria alive in kicking in your throat.

And don't pay attention when someone says it's not common for someone who has had mono before to not catch it again. That's crap. It's very common and it's called reoccuring mono or chronic mononucleosis.

I hope you feel better.

Please get checked no offense but you should see a professional not yahoo answer people. SORRY.

The antibody test will always be positive but your titer (levels of antibody) will go up with an active infection. The lab can run this test to determine if it is actually mono. Other things can cause these symptoms also, but if it is mono again, your immune system is weak for some reason (stress maybe?)

well, it is possible, my son who is 16 has CEBV which stands for chronic epstein barr syndrome. it is due to abnormal elevation in a chronic time period. his levels never go beyond what is considerd the normal levels.
now, other diseases could mimic cebv, for instance, hepatitis c- you have all the symtpoms of cebv or mono, but your levels test normal.
the best thing to do is go beyond a normal liver enzyme test and test for actual antibodies for hepatitis c-regardless if you have a higher common way of getting hcv or not-
many have hcv that have never done drugs and they've no idea how they got it.

there are millions of ways one can acquire hcv infection.
mass innocluations, peircings, tattoos, going to the dentist or barber.....

read up on hepatitis c and see if the symptoms fit. one of the main misconceptions about the disease is one, "it's just a druggy disease" and the worst one is "alt and ast levels are normal, therefor the doctor thinks you wouldn't have hcv." -the latter is further from the truth. many of us walking around have normal enzymes (alt/ast) but are infected and the only way to know for sure is an HCV antibody test. ask for one!
there is really no such thing as asymptomatic heppers out there.

good luck.
