Molds of your mouth?

wel im getting braces expanders and spacers soon and i also have to get molds of my mouth. wat does it taste like? wat r they for? and how long does it take to get them done? im kinda scared...so yah hope i get some good answers thx

Don't worry it's really easy and pretty quick, just a few minutes for the top teeth and then a few for the bottom teeth. Lots of ortho offices have flavorings for the impression material so you'll get to pick what it tastes like. If they don't have flavorings it will taste kind of like stale water I guess is the closest I could describe it. Not the most pleasant thing in the world but no big deal, and not very strong since the flavorings cover it up really well. Good luck!

It's really quick and easy and it doesn't really taste at all. I wouldn't worry about it.

Your dentist will take a metal tray shaped like your mouth (they have lots of different trays of different sizes, so he'll find one that fits perfectly in your mouth). Then he mixes up a powder with some water called alginate. Most of the time it's a slight minty flavor. He mixes the alginate into a paste, puts the paste into the tray then puts the tray into your mouth. It feels like a mouthful and might make you want to gag a little, but the taste isn't bad at all. If you start gagging, just remember to breathe through your mouth, not your nose and you'll be just fine. It takes a little over a minute for the paste to turn into a rubbery material. Then he'll wiggle the tray to loosen it from your teeth and then he'll take it out of your mouth. The whole procedure is less than 5 minutes. That's all that you have to do. After you leave the office, he fills that mold up with cement and makes an exact replica of your mouth. It's really cool to see, you'll like it. Don't worry about anything....it's about the easiest thing that you can have done at the dentist. Good luck with your ortho.

It doesn't taste bad but it's really hard to breath while the molds are in...they only have to be in for like 2 minutes.

well the orth that i went to i had a molding for my mouth a week ago and it taste so bad the top makes you seem like you can't breath but the bottom is find then they make you brush your teath the moldings are use to see what size braces you need and what kind would be right for you.Don't worry it not so bad it is really fun thought because i got to get out of school early for the molding you just got to be brave!

don't worry about the molding and the spacers, those are the easy parts.

All they're going to do is take some foamy material and make you bite on it for about 5-10 minutes, once it hardens they'll take it out and you're all done. With the spacers, they'll take this tool which has the spacers in place, and you bite down on it, and the spacer will go in between teeth. Both are harmless.

idk if u have a good ortho he might have flavorings and they actually taste good!
