Are molds for braces/veneers/whatever bad?

I'm getting braces...I'm not at all scared for the braces aspect, but for the molds. I tend to gag...A LOT. I can't even get adult x-rays. I have to get kid ones. Are they bad? What happens?

Comparison:
Which is worse?
Strep Test, or Molds?

thanks!

Things I do to help patients with bad gag reflex during impressions are: Have them rinse with a numbing solution, have them breath through their nose, try to wiggle just their middle toe and others and having them keep their eyes open. If it gets bad, I tell a funny joke. Proven fact that you can't gag and laugh at the same time. If you have that bad of a gag reflex, make sure that they know and hopefully!! they'll get someone who does a great job and knows all kinds of tricks. I think the strep throat test is MUCH worse than impressions. Good luck and remember that the impression should only take a minute or two.

Having worked for a dentist for 6 years, there are tricks which may help you.

Firstly, try breathing through your nose, very slowly, long and deep. If you feel you're about to gag, start panting like a dog from your mouth. I've seen these methods work many times. Good luck!

For me comparisons weren't bad well this most recent time i got them the first tiem i had braces and I gaged during those because my mouth was smaller and stuff. But really if u breathe through ur nose u'll be fine. what happens is they fill these trays (like the ones they use for fuloride but a little bigger) and stick those into ur mouth for a few minutes.

for you the impressions will be an endurance test because they can actually feel bad BUT remember - focus on something else- a picture on the wall , raise your leg, and breathe ONLY thru your nose. it doesn't take long and really even tho it feels weird- remember its not going anywhere near your throat,
