Impressions and Molds?

What's the difference between getting a mold made of your teeth at the dentist and impressions for braces. It seems the first doesn't hurt at all but everyone says the latter hurts ALOT.

These are identical procedures. Some people just use the "common" term "mold" instead of saying, "impressions," because they figure more patients will know what they mean.

when you go to the dentist and it appears that you may need braces/orthodontic work, the orthodontist will request that an impression be made of your teeth, this is done with a soft compound called alginate, it doesn't produce any pain, the dentist will place a type of tray filled with the material one at a time
to the upper(maxilla) and lower(mandible) where you will sit there for what will seem like an eternity but really not that long.
they will be removed and sent to the lab where the mold will be made of what is called your bite. it makes a duplicate of what your teeth look like outside of your mouth, made out of a type of plaster, there the dentist can determine the best way to correct your bite. there is no pain involved in this simple process,so rest easy, you are on your way to a million dollar smile and reducing
your parents checking account(theres the pain).

Immpressions and molds are the same thing. They take an "impression" of your teeth with stuff called alginate. ( we all use the same stuff ) then we take that impression and pour it up with a clay like material, that hardens. and that gives us the mold. It does not hurt. If you gag though it can make you gag. But it is only in your mouth for about 3 minutes tops.

When your braces go on, then you will start to hurt from the shifting.

same thing a mold is an impression an impression is a mold
