Bad experience with dental molds?

i just recently got my braces off. and after you get your braces off i had to get these invisible retainer thingies. well to get the retainers they have to take a mold of your teeth. so they took it and it was fine. but just today i go to pick up my retainers right?
well the bottom retainer was totally fine but the top didnt fit at all. so then they tell me they have to take a new mold of my upper teeth. and im like ok thats fine.
but as it turns out the first mold didnt turn out right so they tried again, and they had to do it 5 TIMES! before it finally turned out ok. and i pray that the retainer will fit so i dont have to go through that gagging experience again. has this ever happend to anybody else? im curious.

The impression that your dentist takes needs to be accurate in order for the retainer to be made correctly. If you have a strong gag reflex, the material may not have stayed in one spot, causing your teeth to appear different when the model is made. If an inaccurate model of your teeth is used to make the retainer, the retainer will fit the model beter than your teeth. If yuou have to get more impressions made, try humming a song while the "goop" is in your mouth. After 20yrs. of dentistry, I've never seen anyone who could gag/throw up and hum row row row your boat at the same time. It helped a lot of my patients.
