Question about mold and Asthma? |
I have mold "in" the shower wall. When I moved into my house the shower was digusting and covered in mold. My landlords fix to this problem was to clue a new shower wall to the old one... Wala ploblem fixed right??? NO Mold can definitely trigger asthma and allergies. I have had problems with it in the past. Putting a new shower wall in over the old one was just a band aid effect in my opinion. If there is mold in the walls, the whole thing needs to come out and be replaced. I think you really need to be careful here. I heard of a house in the USA that had to be demolished because of a mold problem that was making the occupants ill. Asthma can be affected by dust but I'd consult your doctor and consider moving if possible. Sorry, I don't mean to scare you but it's better to be informed and educated about this sort of thing early than when it's too late. Without a doubt, mold can worsen asthma. There also is little doubt that it will get worse when the old bathroom is ripped out. You can call anyone you like, but that isn't going to change anything for your daughter. For her, the best bet would probably be to move. Try looking for the Housing Department in your area. They might be able to lead you to resources and information. You may also be able to withhold rent as the mold creates a health risk and therefore breeches the warranty of habitability. Sure mold can affect asthma..when the bathroom is being ripped out hang a damp sheet in the doorway..kinda' seal the doorway with it..should catch the spores, at least the majority of them...and get your daughter out of the place while it is being done,,,maybe stay at a friends for a couple of days... I lost a house to Stacciboteris Mold in South Texas. My son had asthma. He got terribly sick. We all developed asthma like symptoms. We started having trouble with our memory. It's bad stuff! Call the Heath Department. They should be able to guide you in the right direction. If the bathroom is the only place in the house with mold, put up plastic sheeting in the doorway while they're repairing it. Bleach will also help kill it. I don't think mold is good for anyone but I have heard that it can make asthma worse I would move. It is actually illegal to rent out a house with mold like that my friend had the same problem and she took the landlord to court and won you might go through the city landlords have certain rules and there are inspectors in the health department. I don't think a new bathroom will help as I am sure it is worse but you just can't see it. Withholding rent is good just make sure you get some pictures to prove how bad it is if they put up a new one and your evidence is not detectable then you will NOT win in court also doctors bills and other problems from the mold health inspector should be called asap. |
