Could the mold in my friends trailer be making her and her kids sick?

My friend just noticed recently that she has mold growing in a trailer that she is renting, not only that, there are open spaces in there where you can actually see the outside ground, it is a really BAD trailer, she is going to be moving VERY soon because she thinks that they mold she has found may be making her kids sick. It was only one of her sons but her and her 9 year old sleep in the same room because he is afraid of his room, anyway, he got sick and she has been getting headaches ever since she moved into the house, could the mold be the reason? What we are also wondering is, when she does move, does she need to leave most or all of her things behind? I have watched on television how some people have to leave all of their belongings behind because mold can be so bad, the mold is black. Can anyone tell me what kind this may be? And what she should do?

Mold is very dangerous. It can cause lung problems and other health problems. Get her out ASAP! I also think she should report it to the health department, and might possibly be able to get health cost reimbursement or other finances back from the landlord. It's the landlord's responsibility to clean it up if he/she was informed of the problem.

She might have to leave some stuff behind. Mold can grow on anything, but esp. on cloth, wood and other porous surfaces. Check it thoroughly. Use some type of mold killer or bleach if possible (check with an industrial cleaning supply store).

Not sure of the type of mold, but yes, mold can make people very sick. She should report the conditions to the landlord. I don't think she needs to leave her stuff behind, but a good cleaning with bleach is in order with the stuff that it's safe for.

She needs to get out IMMEDIATELY---many of those type molds can be deadly!
If nothing else, have her stay with you---all their lives are in danger.

Have her call the Health Dept. and have them come out and give an educated answer. She may have some financial recourse against her landlord.
