Mold growing in my apartment due to flooding in carpet? |
I moved into my apartment in March of 06 and in June the carpets started to get flooded with water. Needless to say there was damage to the carpet and now their is mold growing on the carpet and walls. I have sent letters to the Management and they have had guys come out and clean the carpet and paint the walls without treating the problem. Also Their seems to be black mold growing in the bathroom. Their are holes in the walls where spiders and ants are comming thru. Also I didnt see this before. But there is black mold behind the toilet bowl. Looks like maintenance tried to cover up alot of damage in the apartment with paint and some wood. In the bathroom They painted on the walls so paint is comming off due to the humidity in the bathroom. and the apartments around me are completely abandoned. because of sever damage. Now I want to get out of my lease immediately I have a lawyer but I want to have someone come out and inspect the apartment. Who should I get in contact wit you better write a letter to the health department. that carpet should removed the carpet and cleaned the mold. when carpet is damaged as such, cleaning it is futile - this carpet needs to be removed Contact "code inforcement" in your city to come out and inspect your apartment to determine if they have broken any city or state codes. (sounds as if they have). If they have you will be released from your lease and they will be fined and could possibly be condemed(spelling). good luck man i would move and maybe sew the guys for selling that messed up place i would have the city come look at it they might help you more than i can They are in violation. Contact your county's Tenant/Landlord Department. If the other apartments are already abandoned due to mold, your local health inspector should be able to provide a letter indicating such. Save any other documents related to the maintenance work, photograph the mold and move stat. Contact the Department of Health. If there is a severe mold problem(like the one you are describing), They will charge the property owner/landlord and they will have to fix the problem. Because mold can be very dangerous, they may condemn the building. The Department of Health will see to it that you can get out of your lease with out incident. Black mold can be deadly; especially if someone is severely allergic; an attorney would be a good start. |
