Allergies Coming From Mold?

I get allergic reactions like itchy throat, coughing, sneezing, etc. when I go to my sisters house. I always thought it was from her black lab, but she recently did a mold test in her basement and it tested positive for mold. I did always smell a musty odor coming from there. Also my husband gets all stuffy and can't breathe when we go there. My question is- is my allergy coming from her dog or the mold? How can I Tell? By the way I do have allergies to cats but not to my own two dogs or any others. And her family who has no known allergies don't seem to be affected (if its the mold.) Any Answers would be appreciated. As i am concerned about this mold situation.

Yes you can certainly be allergic to mold. Maybe try Benedryl or some other type of allergy relief when you visit.
Not everyone reacts the same to mold. Even in the same family.
You could try to arrange a visit elsewhere with her dog.
But the best way would be to visit the doctor and get an allergy test.
You could be reacting to both.
She should try to get rid of the mold anyway even if they don't react to it. It usually just keeps getting worse.

my house is so moldy from a broken tub seal,that when you walk in the front door,it will knock you down.and i have to live here every day,to old and poor to move.you could be allergic to the dogs,but more likely its the mold.

It's probable you have an allergic reaction to animal dander and mold. Your sister must get the mold cleaned out as it's detrimental to health.

some allergies *** from mold only how i know my daughter has them badly and we have to get read of the mold so yes mold can cause allergies

Go to an allergist and get an allergy test. Ask your sister to have the mold in her basement identified. Then you can see if you are allergic to the type of mold she has there or if it's her dog.

Mold is bad a couple of months ago I was living in this apartment, that had mold. My 1y.o. would be sick all the time, When I paid the smell under the bathroom sink some attention I found mold. Come to find out this was making my baby sick. It didn't affect my other child, husband or me.

It could be mould, but it could also be the dust in the walls.

You can be allergic to one dog more than others- allergies are very surprising things that are still not properly understood.

If you already have allergies, you are much more likely to be sensitive to other allergens. My advice would be to a) try and avoid her dog (get her to keep it contained in one or two rooms whilst you're staying) b) try not to sleep pushed up next to the walls c) ask your sister to wash her walls with a mild detergent (this works wonders for my breathing) and d) take an antihistamine and see it that relieves your symptons

It could be either. You should probably get allergy tested. I have a dog ad didn't egt sneezy or anything around him but it happened around other animals. I got allergy tested and it turned i was allergic to dogs i just had kind of build up an imunity to my dog. You definantly get tested if you really want to figure it out

hear is a weird remedy that dose wonders for me, I have a vary similar problem. drink a little lemon juice, or pore a table spoon or two of lemon juice in watter. dude I swear bye it, it dose wonders.

get out of the house move this microrganism will make you sick even give you cancer . SBS had a tv show about the exact same problem they basically moved the family out re built the house 50,000.00 $ later they moved back in. all ok but they were sick like you. good luck.

sounds like mold to me . there's a test you can have done that will tell you if you have a mold problem.

You should be concerned and so should she. Could be allergy to either the dog or mold or both. Did they happen to say what type of mold? She may also have dust mites or other funk in the house that you and your husband can't take. Sounds like a place for short visits or at least open the windows when you are there. Either have them come to your house or meet on neutral territory......simply explain you are allergic to that wonderful dog. As much as you LOVE the animal, you can't breathe around him.

I guess the only way to tell is to borrow her dog and if it isn't him then it is something in her house. I get the same reaction and it seems the culprit was dust mites mostly for me. But at the same time I had wondered if it was mold or something since it was an older home, yet there wasn't any really visible nor did it smell musty or anything. It could have been in the carpet where the problem was. We finally moved two miles down the road and the problem cleared up just like that! I still get the problem when I am around certain flowers, like lilies or anything with a strong scent. I am also allergic to hickory, rabbits and horses. Luckily not to cats as we have 6. lol
I guess my only suggestion is to have your sister visit you instead. If there is a mold problem, they will have to deal with it. There is a black mold which is dangerous.
