Can people with MVP (mitral valve prolapse).....go for extreme sports like skydiving, gliding, scuba etc...? |
Can people with MVP with minimal reguration (mitral valve prolapse with minimal reguration).....go for extreme sports like skydiving, gliding, scuba etc... I have MVP and my doctor says I can. MVP effects cardiac output. ( how much blood is being pumped out by your heart) I scuba dive without a problem. Rule of thumb, get short of breath, stop doing the sport. yep, millioms of people have it. You could ask your doctor to give you a stress test, wherein you will be asked to walk, jog, or run on a treadmill for a given amount of time while doctors examine how your heart performs in action. If the doc sees that your heart is fine, you should be good to go. Best thing to do is check with your doctor, but if he doesn't know much about diving, find a doctor who does. If you're really serious about scuba, it would be worth the time it might take to find a doc knowledgeable about dive medicine. I hope you can dive, because diving is the most awesome activity!! |
