Miscarriage....? |
i need some advice - i currently have an Implanon fitted on my arm for my chosen method of contraception but have been having pregnancy symptoms - took a test the other day and it came back positive (i thought it was 100% effective against pregnancy????) .... rang nhs direct and was advised to make appt with doctor which i am waiting to go for 2moro... problem is i had sever pain and some bleeding about 8 days ago and when i told the nurse this she mentioned that maybe i could have suffered a miscarriage THEN which could mean i am NOT pregnant but still have pregnancy hormones in body which made the test positive..... anyone able to advise on any aspect????!!!! Only abstinence is 100% effective against pregnancy. Just wait until tomorrow and discuss this with your doctor. That was an odd answer. Once someone miscarries, there is no longer pregnancy "hormones left in your body". Any test you take after a miscarriage would be negative. It is a good thing you have an appointment. My guess would be you might have been pregnant at the time of the contraceptive implant...or recently after. Did they tell you to use a condom when having sex for a month after the implant?...they usually do. I know you're concerned and upset...try and relax till you see the doctor. I am a nurse practitioner so I seriously question the "nurses" response to you...she might not have been a nurse, but just someone to answer questions and didn't have all her facts. I had a miscarriage last week. The way I knew was that I was sleeping and when I woke up, I just didn't feel pregnant anymore, mentally. A couple of hours later, I had severe lower abdomen pain and I was bleeding like crazy. I really felt like I was giving birth. I went to the emergency room, and their preganacy test came back positive because I still had a high hormonal count. They did ultra sounds and cervical exams to determine where the bleeding is coming from. They came to the conclusion that I had a miscarriage. If the bleeding is coming from the cervix, you've had a miscarriage. It sound to me like you did have one. You hormone count will go down to 5 eventually. But your count now can be something like 14,000 depending on how far along you where. In the ultra sounds they determine if there is any placenta left or any other remnants of a pregnancy. If there isn't then you're lucky. Removing the placenta in a surgical procedure I heard can be extrememly painful. You'll still have the preggie body and the emotions and some other signs of pregnancy, but as your hormone count goes down, so will the symptoms. I'm sorry to hear about your news. But don't letit stop you from trying again. They say you have to wait three cycles. See a doctor asap GO to the ER doesnt matter what is the deal just go. You can be at risk and all that matters is you get answers. Sometimes hormone levels can stay high after a miscarrage giving a false possitive. Sometimes you'll get a negative when you are pregnant a few days before a miscarrage. Symptoms can take upto a month to go away, - mine took 3 weeks. There is no such thing as 100% protection. The only thing that won't get you pregnant is to not have sex. |
