Miscarriage confidentiality? |
I had a miscarriage about 7 months ago, I had a D+C. I just wondered if I was to get pregnant again would they ask questions about my miscarriage infront of my boyfriend? e.g if they say "have you had a miscarriage before" I don't want to say no incase it affects my new pregnancy howeve I don't want my boyfriend to know about my loss. Or is all my information on record and completly confidential? Thanks. There is absolutely no need for your boyfriend to be present during you telling your health history. When you mention the miscarriage, make sure the person taking your history writes *CONFIDENTIAL* next to it. They will need to ask those questions, and it is best to be honest, so it sounds like you had better get talking to your boyfriend They will discuss your previous history if he's there or not. Reason being they will be more thorough this time so If you dont want him knowing, keep him away when you have your checks with the midwife. You can go to the doctor without the boyfriend just to tell them about your history and let them know how you feel about the situation. It would be confidential. your boyfriend need's to know what you're dealing with as much as you do. after all this is not just your child, you're going through this together. honesty is best in any situation but in this one i think it's a must. I would make sure your boyfriend is not in the room with you during your initial visit. Then make clear to the nurse that you don't want the information discussed in front of him. Off course he needs to know..Supposed it was the other way around and he asked for a private consultation..Best to start of as you intend to go on..Cos one day he might find out and what are you going to say then There are a few people leaving answers like "tell your boyfriend, honesty is the best policy" etc, but look, sometimes a fresh start is the best possible thing that can happen to someone. |
