Is this a TIA (mini-stroke)? |
A few weeks ago I had to go to the ER because i had a severe headache on the left side of my head. The right side of my face was drooping and i was drooling. I had one doctor tell me it was a mini-stroke, and another told me it was a seizure. I recovered from it, but i have felt very ill ever since. (when i say recovered i mean there was no permanent paralysis). Now it seems like I cant stay standing for very long. I get tired and weak after a while. My blood pressure has been elevated, and so has my pulse. My cholesterol is 286. But i have lost around 7 lbs since i had it. Altogether, I am down 35 lbs from my highest weight. I weigh 190 now. I'm only 20 years old. Anyone else who has experienced an episode like the one i had, or knows someone who has? Your answers are appreciated :) A former lady friend of mine experienced a stroke at about your same age too. Hers was much more severe. I think maybe it was a haemorrhagic stoke. She had two of them. The result was that she had to go through much more therapy than one might imagine. Some doctors thought she would never walk again. But she was determined, and she not only learned to walk again but also completed her master's degree in political science at Berkeley, California. First off GET THAT CHOLESTEROL DOWN, having it like that at 20 is a no no. In an ER setting it is very common to get carted thru the system like cattle which is why they usually tell you on the check out papers to follow up with a physician. TIA's are not age specific, I know of small children that have had them. I strongly suggest a third opinion from a recommended doctor. BUT don't freak out, I'm not suggesting this because I think you had a stroke, it could have also been Bell's Palsey, you may ask them to see if that is the case. Bell's Palsey has very similair symptoms to stroke, and is linked to stress and being over tired. I know three people who have it, (all of them connected to my mother in law would you believe? ;) ) But yeah I'd have a professional who has more than 5 minutes to spend with you take a look. |
