AUTISM&A.D.D, caused from a milk allergy?

I have a 6 year old son he has , what they call P.D.D. I just read this article on Autism and a Milk allergy, has anyone else herd of this? and do you think I should try the NON dairy diet, and NO wheat diet for him? I do plan to talk to his Doc on thursday about this, but real people who live with this everyday have a better understanding about things like this. These people claim there child was cured just by taking away all dairy and wheat products.

Hi,
I have been dealing with a lot of issues that I did not realize were caused by gluten allergies, after much research and witnessing of my own daughter and others childrens changes I am convinced that a child with autism should be on a gluten free diet. I have heard of many cases of misdiagnosed autism when in reality the child had Celiac or gluten intolerance and was completely cured through a gluten free or gluten and caisen free diet.
Often gluten intolerance can trigger dairy intolerance - after 6 mos to a year on a gluten free and dairy free diet many can go back to dairy- gluten free is almost always life long - some cannot go back to dairy.
Jenny McCarthy just published a book called 'Louder than Words' regarding her experiences withthe autism diagnoses and gluten free diet.
I would highly recommend ordering testing from Enterolab.com (you can file the appropriate paperwork with your insurance company for reimbursement afterwards) but this testing is the most comprehensive and accurate in findingo ut if your child has a propensity towards Celiac or gluten intolerance (genetic test), if they are actively having a reaction or an autoimmune reaction to gluten and if there is any level of malabsorption related to how the gluten is affecting the intestines (what kind of intestinal damage is experienced because of the reaction to the gluten) It also includes a dairy intolerance test.

I heard that if you remove dairy and wheat from a child with autism diet, you would see some improvement, but it is in no way a cure.

I was diagnosed with ADD in high school. Just recently, i've been tested for allergies. I have major environmental and food allergies. My allergist said there have been studies that show that allergies and ADD are connected. He told me that if I had been tested for allergies long ago, it may have solved my ADD prob. Definitely talk to your doc. I believe you should try everything before you try medications. Yes, try a gluten and milk protien free diet! What can it hurt? It may actually help a great deal. Good luck!

SOMETIMES it's caused by milk allergy. It can't hurt to try the special diet, but if that doesn't work the best treatment is this:

It has a good track record, and, most importantly; IT DOES NO HARM. I think it was Hippocrates who instructed physicians with this: "First, do no harm." Chelation therapy and ABA have both been known to cause harm in particular cases.

You need to do more research. My nephew has mild autism, and is on a gluten-free, dairy-free diet with multiple supplements and it all helps with behavior, but it does not cure autism. Definitely find out all you can, though because diet has a HUGE impact on behavior (and not just for autistic or ADD kids).
