My son is allergic to milk. He is 2+ yrs old. Has anybody overcome milk allergy from their childhood.? |
If you or anyone you know has overcome milk allergy, please share your experiences. Please also let me know if you had been on a special diet or medication to overcome the milk allergy. I had a cow milk allergy as a baby. I had to drink soy and goat's milk, and eat sorbet instead of ice cream. By the time I was 5 my allergy was gone! I wanted to try ice cream one day, so I did. Never had a problem since. My fiance's 10 year-old little brother has been allergic since birth, too. He is now able to eat small amounts of cheese or ice cream, but not a lot. His father is, however, still allergic at 45. So individual experiences may vary. Some people get over it, some don't, and some can be somewhere in between. I've never heard of a medication for this. use soy milk. tastes different, yes, but it doesn't have the lactose in it that sets off the allergic reaction. I am a nanny for a little girl. She was two years old when I met her and she had a milk allergy. She drank Soy milk and stayed very healthy and now that she is 3 1/2 she can safely drink milk. There is absolutely nothing wrong with soymilk. I know many people and young children that drink only soymilk. Sometimes they just get that way at a young age. I don't think you can ever 'overcome' a milk allergy, but i have this and i find goat's milk is fine. I don't know if you can give it too a toddler but your health visitor should be able to help with advice. my brother had the same problem when he was younger too. It was either milk or orange juice i dont remember but now he is older and he doesnt have that anymore. hes not allergic anymore. so that might happen like it might just be for his childhood or it could possibly stay like that 4ever. But u cant be possitive of anything. Is your son "Milk" allergic or "Lactose Intolerant"....we found that either soy milk or Lactaid milk works...there is also organic milk on the market that may work. My daughter could not have milk she was usually sick if she drank too much. although the doctor said different we gave her skimmed and she seemed fine so it must of been the fat content she couldn't take. and yes she grew out of it. if it is a proper allergy which has been diagnosed i don't think you can grow out of it though. my brother and i both had that problem. i didn't outgrow it until i was 6, and my brother didn't outgrow it until he was almost 10. i don't know if the fact that i was a precocious baby has anything to do with it. Nope still allergic. I get the Wal-Mart brand of Soy Milk. It is a bit more expensive than regular milk but your child's happiness will be well worth it. It's not bad. Has a light nutty flavor. The only medication out there for milk allergy sufferers is Lactaid which is a pill you chew before consuming dairy products. In my experience it doesn't work. My friends little boy was on 5 medications a day for 2 years for his milk allergy but nothing helped. I finally went and bought my friend some Soy milk and her little boy as well as her other two children loved it. Now they won't drink anything else. Try goat milk. the thing that overcomes it is only time... with time, some people it lessens and even goes away... for some it doesnt... there isnt any magic diet to put them on to make them be able to eat milk later with no problems... give it time and later on he either will be able to or he wont.. my brother and i were both allergic to milk when we were much younger... so much so that we couldnt eat anything made with cows milk... store bought bread, crackers, nothing that had cows milk in the ingredients list - no matter how little... by the time we were 14 we got gotten to where we could tolerate products with milk in them and some cheeses... i am 35 and still cant drink straight milk or ice cream but there are so many alternatives now a days, there is no reason for him to feel like hes missing something... Is he allergic to the casein in the milk? There is a distinction. Some people are only allergic to cow's milk; hence goat's milk is fine. However, for those who are allergic to the casein in the milk, then they need to switch to soy or rice milk. my son who is now 26 was allergic to baby milk he was brought up on cows full cream milk have a chat with your health visitor she will be able to help you as a child i was allergic to cow's milk. i was given goats milk instead which i hated! however as i grew older the allergy got better by itself - i guess i just grew out of it. sorry i can't give u a more detailed rersponse. I was allergic to milk in childhood, it caused me to get really bad eczema. my children all had a dairy intolerence but once they all reached between 2 and 3 yrs old they just grew out of it. My girl had the same - gave her goat's milk instead. she grew out of the intollerance. Hi, |
