Mlik and Ice Cream allergy, Milk Protein? All Dairy allergy? Ice Cream, cheese, milk make it hard to breathe

I am 22 years old and for as long as I can remember I don't drink much milk, or eat cereal, primarily because it seems to make my throat hurt and hard to breathe for several hours.

Second, when I eat MOST ice cream my throat feels the same way. I eat a lot of ice cream still and deal with the effects. Somtimes I regret it. Cold Stone is only place that generally effects me VERY little if at all. Dairy Queen or Ice cream from Wal-mart always seem to have a strong effect and make my throat hurt and hard of breathing.

When I eat cheese I feel the same way, as well as when I have lasagna. Just a few bites of lasagna make my throat hurt quickly and pretty bad.

So milk (2% is what i drink), and most ice cream, all cheese seem to bother my throat. ANy similar examples or things that could be in them that could be the cause? I am tired of feeling this way and want to feel better. When I was a baby i had tubes put in my ears, I read that may be common with milk allergies.thanks

Ok, now that you mention it, wheat has always made my ears itch, but not necessarily made me feel bad. However most of all type of nuts make my throat feel the same way. Sad story to think I am lactose intolerant, is it really that simple? dang!

Sounds like you have an itolerance to dairy but cheese doesn't have lactose in it so it might not be just a lactose intolerance

You're lactose intolerant, stop eating/drinking anything with milk in it and you'll feel better.

It is very common.
It's good that you are paying attention, too, because allergies can develop into Anaphylactic shock (closes the throat) over time. Then you truly CANNOT breathe--at all.
Thank God that you know what causes your symptoms.
Now, to do something about them.
There are many rice, almond and soy products that can be substituted for milk products.
They make cream "cheese", ice "cream","milk", etc.
Go to the nearest health food store and look in the fridge and freezer sections. Ask the employees for help, too, they love to introduce people to healthier alternatives to dairy foods.
Good luck.

Sounds like lactose intolerance.. That means you cannot digest the sugar lactose present in Dairy products.. there are tablets that aid in digestion of this, speak to your pharmacist or see a Dr.

You have lactose intolerance and wheat bread or products does the same would be my guess. I have had it and it causes me to have asthma, eat only ice milk no dairy products and don't eat wheat products unless toasted enough to kill the wheat germ. If you want to drink milk Drink soy milk, like Rice dream, there are others but I like their flavors and are cheep.and for wheat products you can eat look up Seventh Day Adventist health store they sell a lot of good foods and breads and pasta tat does not contain wheat.

you may have lactose intolerance, discuss it with doctors at clinics but meantime settle for milk replacements such as those in special formulas - see if diet icecream ingredient do not include whole milk or milk itself

Ya, sort of what she said. You DO NOT have what is commonly refered to as lactose intolerant.

Lactose is the name of the different kind of sugar found in ALL milk products (milk, cheese, ice cream, some sauces and stuff {with milk or milk products}, and foods with lactose added directly).

Intolerant refers to basicly your stomach not being able to digest the complex sugar lactose.

But you are alergic and or display alergic like simptoms to milk some milk products. There are THOUSANDS of similarites between the differing milk products that you show or don't show symptoms or show less symtoms for. One cannot be certain what is in them that hurts you because it could be any one or several of the thousands of things that they have in common.

However, an experienced doctor in this area or work can figure it out. Have your doctor refer you to someone.

My suggestion, take calcium in a different way (make sure you get enough) and stop taking the milk products that hurt you and make it hard to breathe because your body is telling you that it does not like it, at all.

AGAIN, YOU ARE ALERGIC NOT LACTOSE INTOLERANT!

First of all, I would like to say, "Amen", to what "Chris, the discerner" said! I will repeat it with:

YOU ARE ***NOT*** "LACTOSE INTOLERANT".

YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO MILK PRODUCTS!!!

Stay away from them all together. Cheese, milk, ice cream-the whole lot.

Please get to an allergist ASAP and get tested for food allergies. It sounds like you are probably allergic to peanuts as well. Food allergies can very, very serious-do NOT take them for granted!

Please stay away from all foods that make your throat feel weird or give you a rash-until you see an allergist.

Get your booty to the allergist ASAP!!!!

Like Chris and Weirdo said, it's an allergy. My son is allergic to the fat in milk only. He can eat all the cheese and ice cream he wants, and cereal with fat-free milk. But the minute he drinks milk with any fat in it, he starts to get a stuffy nose and a fine rash that will worsen if he keeps drinking it. With allergies, there's not much you can do but avoid the cause.

Echoing what the others have said - there is nothing in your question that would make anyone think you were lactose intolerant.

Lactose intolerance is an absence in the gut of an enzyme - with that missing, a person is prone to stomach upset, gas, vomiting or diarrhea.

Milk ALLERGY on the other hand, is an immune system response, and commonly causes rashes, breathing problems, facial swelling, hives and such.

It can be life threatening - in the form of anaphylactic shock.

DO NOT play around with this allergy - talk to your doctor and demand first to be tested and secondly demand a prescription for an EpiPen.
