Migraine.......?

I've had migraines every couple of months for about two years. I went to the doctor and he gave me some 'sumatriptan' tablets, which are ok, but I was wondering if there is anything else you can do to ease migraine pain. I probably shouldn't take any other drugs along with the sumatriptan.

I use 4head for minor headaches but it just doesn't touch migraines! Please help!

You can take other drugs along with the triptan. I don't know what dosage you're taking, but you can take a 100mg tablet then repeat in an hour if it's not working. I do the imitrex self injector and is much more effective than the pills. Other than triptans, I take a medicine called Indocin, which is a suppository (I know, yuck) that really works. I take an Indocin and a phenergan (I get nausea), then repeat the indocin in an hour. If that still doesn't do it, I do an Imitrex shot. If that doesn't work, I take an oxycodone and sleep it off. You may just try another triptan (Zomig, Maxalt, etc) and see if that works better.

You're talking about Imitrex which is a fairly good migraine med. There are many new, similar drugs which work quite well. Talk to your Dr. and get some samples of some of the others to try. When you find the one that works best, get that.

u need some magnesium

I take Niacin (1) 500mg capsule a day, which helps cut down on the number of migraines I get. I had been to a neurologist for over 10 yrs for migraines & he had me on several different kinds of meds for it. At one time I was taking 5 different meds. I am no longer taking any thing but Niacin & when I get a migraine Aleve gel caps 2.
I would get migraines 2-3 times a week & some would last 2 days without letting up. Now when I get one like that I go to my dr. & get a shot of Imetrex & toridial which helps. If it is real bad were I am sick from it he gives me a shot of demeral.

one can take ergotamine

excedrain for migrane.

I have frequent migraines and I take two prescriptions, one is Butyl Bital for the minor ones and Relpax for the bad ones. The Relpax KNOCKS my migraine out (and me as well). I would talk to your doctor FIRST, because if the pills aren't working he needs to find something else for you.

In the meantime, I've found that caffeine is a fantastic migraine helper.
