Are migraine meds worth it if I don't have insurance? |
I get a migraine 1-2x/week. I am also very sensitive to all medications and I know migraine meds can cause nausea/vomiting, headache, dizziness, etc. I don't want to take a drug if the side effects are going to be the same or worse than an actual migraine. Anybody with experience in migraine Rxs? Magnesium often helps. There is plenty of magnesium in nuts and seeds and there is also a bit in bread and cereals. There is also quite a bit in soy products. A magnesium supplement could also help. I had migraines for years and years and no meds helped them. What helped was laying in bed in a dark room with no noise or smells like food cooking. I would take a couple of gravol pills to help with the nausea and it also helped me go to sleep. Sleep is the only thing that would get rid of the migraine. Next time you have a migraine instead of meds that have those side effects and are expensive without insurance try the gravol and just lay down and see if that helps. As I said, that is the only thing that worked for me. Be sure to go to a neurologist they specialize in this. My daughter has them all the time and has to stay in bed, away from light and noises. I think most of hers is stress. The medications are mostly trial and error until they find they right one for you or combination. Dr's. offices are usually full of samples and when you go take a small bag and load up on the ones he wants you to have, and if they don't work, call or e-mail and let him know they don't work and you need something else and you need samples because of financial situation, I am in the same boat. I have to see one because of seizures and it was trial and error for quite awhile. Good luck, if I can help more let me know. I had migraines for many years..there are meds that DO help!! There is one called Meclizine~~tis an OTC drug often promoted for motion sickness{nausea and vomiting..etc.} and vertigo, Meclizine is effective in inhibiting the symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and dizziness~~ Meclizine may be effective in relieving vertigo experienced as a result of inner ear infections or other conditions related to dizziness. Hardly. |
