Preventative Migraine Medicide?

Is anybody here on preventative migraine medicine? I've been on imitrex and am now using relpax to treat the migraine attack when it happens but these two haven't really worked out that well for me and I was thinking of maybe switching to a preventative migraine medicine. Any suggestions? Your opinion of these medicines? I got about 4 migraines a month when school was in session and during the break about 2 I think. I think some causes might be changes in my sleep schedule or waking up too fast as well as stress. Exercise seems to worsen the pain once it's there. Maybe I'm crazy but it seems like drinking wine may help prevent them once in a while.

i've tried about everything out there, nothing worked for me, but people are having a LOT of success with preventative care using a drug called topamax. you also lose weight with it! in terms of an attack, i've found the zomig nasal spray to be much more effective than both imitrex and relpax.

if you have high blood pressure, something like a beta blocker may work for you as a preventative measure as well. make sure you are drinking plenty of water though.

Have you tried changed your food intake?

Check this out...

Take the following in a tea.

St. John's Wort, anti-depressant, anti-epileptic, and vascular dilator, crushed White Willow bark (for the Salicylic Acid, or natural aspirin), Dong Quai ( if you are female) else Fenugreek tablets and/or Black Cohosh (also if female), Wild Rose Hips (immune booster Vit C), Vitex , in a decaffeinated Green Tea mix, turn OFF any and all bright lights, no TV, turn off ALL electronic devices including computers, cell-phones and video-games and take a walk outdoors, this time, concerned more with the surroundings that trying to get "fit" or lose weight! Have no stereo Walkman, no radio with you. Remove all jewelry except that made of Copper and if the pain is located in one area, put a patch over the affected eye.

This will not only remedy the immediate situation, but should in a few weeks prevent any more from every hitting you! There's a reason women get Migraines about 10 times more often than men. It's caused by TOO much stress. Too much electronic noise pollution! Too much bright flickering lights which can bring on epileptic seizures in some people. Too much smoking and caffein and not enough FRESH AIR.

Boughs of Aromatic and Resinous trees in the Pine family esp. that of Balsam Fir which grows wild in the North Eastern US and Canada, placed over your bed at night is very helpful.
The Narraganset people believed it warded off evil spirits harmful to women esp. In reality, it's the resinous scent that tricks the mind into thinking you are outdoors in your dreams causing tremendous stress relief, relieving stress induced disorders from fibromyalgia to Migraines in the process!

This isn't Voodoo or Witchcraft here I'm talking about, but it sure works like magic! Try it yourself and see! If unsure about the proper amounts talk to an herbalist in your area.

The only way to CURE stress related disorders is to ELIMINATE the STRESS and if STRESS plus harmonal imbalances pile on injury upon injury then you deal with BOTH.
Fenugreek works as well as Premarin, and is an Herb, not made of Pregnant Mare's Urine.

Know how they make it? The pregnant mare is kept with just enough water to survive in a cramped location unable to move and its piss collected, and the estrogen like compounds extracted in a chemical process! When the colt is born it is either euthanized or sold for dog food, and the Mare impregnated again artificially and kept this way until death by exhaustion!

Replace Premarin with Fenugreek or Vitex and Black Cohosh and Dong Quai for females troubles and get all the benefits with fewer side effects and a big savings in your check book!

But don't listen to me! Listen to your doctor! He's in it for the money anyway! And the more the merrier, eh? What I teach here can be done BY you, yourself. I receive NOTHING for this information! It is gratis, like everything else in Nature!

Whether this will "cure" you, I don't know, nor can I guarantee anything. But then did your doctors "cure" you with their expensive regimen and cold clinical manner treating you like a human guinea pig, instead of a human being?

But use common sense. Don't think because it is Herbal, that it isn't potent or can't harm or kill. Blue Cohosh in large doses will cause a miscarriage and possibly death. Don't confuse Black Cohosh with the potentially deadly Blue Cohosh! If purchased in concentrated form at an Herbal shop or a GNC store follow directions on label.

Aspirin is safe and even beneficial in SMALL doses. In overdose it can cause internal hermorrhaging leading to your death!

The active ingredient in Tylenol over the counter, Acetaminophine, will blow your liver to kingdom come in overdose and you with it!

More often than you might think, the MD with his impressive knowlege and degrees just treats symptoms and lets Nature and your body to heal itself. But he gets the CASH!

I say, cut out the MIDDLE man! Just you, Nature and learning to head the wisdom of the DNA encoded in your own body will give you a long happy life or at least as good as what modern society and health care can give you! Lao Tzu who lived a long life when asked "What is the secret of longevity?"

No long lists of don't this or don't that...just "When hungry eat, when thirsty drink, when tired sleep. That's all!" Listen to your body, stop eating to alleviate stress. Eat only when it tells you to eat and if you listen close, it will even tell you WHAT to eat or drink!

imitrex is to be 1 of the best...some blood pressure drugs prevent migraines

Pl try simple acupressure given below for immediate relief.
If it fails you will have to go for Acupuncture.

There is hardly any medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for RA, OA, Back ache and almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.

Acidity, WORRY, sadness, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drug side effects, stress, bad smell, TV & COMPUTER SOMETIMES, Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy, BODY CONSTITUTION etc are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.

Acupuncture is the best treatment.
I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.

Pain killers don't treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds.
The useless drugs have tremendous power of side effects like liver/kidney failures, ulcer, inflammation of intestines and lot more.

Avoid late sleeping if possible; worry, tension, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods, SMOKING and alcohole.
Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help if cough is not there.

But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it is very strong.

If it is acute pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds.

For forehead/eye pain the points are in front of nails on the finger tips or 3-7 mm below.

It may disappear naturally too.
