If an infant gets Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) because her parent has it, will the child |
be taken away for child abuse. The parents are actully afraid to take her to the doctor for these reasons. the situation is my brother, is it that extreamly dangerous? He is really freaking out, and called me crying. These parents are stupid if they aren't getting their baby medical attention if he/she has a serious infection. You aren't breaking the law if you have MRSA, but you are breaking the law if you fail to get your child medical care. To have their baby being taken away because the parent has MRSA, would be like taking a child away from a parent because they both have colds. MRSA is very common today. it can be caused by unsanitary conditions. the parent should be more concerned with making sure that the child finishes all antibiotics and follows up with the pediatrician. Get that child to the emergency room NOW! umm.. Thats crazy I wouldn't worry about being charged with child abuse, they didn't pass it on purpose. But MRSA is a sometimes deadly and very hard to treat infection and they could be putting their child's life on the line that is the child abuse in this case if they care about their child they should seek medical attention immediately. no.. that won't happen.. They need to disenfect the enitre house, sheets, clothing, counters, door knobs and all surfaces and get that child to the doctor, before she has serious problems. This can even cause death and that would not be a pretty site compared to jail time for refusing medical treatment. I agree -- get the infant to the ER if you suspect MRSA. Put the child's needs FIRST and that is the RIGHT thing to do. The child will only be taken away if your brother does NOT seek medical treatment! MRSA is going around crazy, not from unsanitary conditions, but from person to person. You touch an object or me, I contract the bacteria from the object or you... Need to make sure you wash your hands like a germaphobe & use bleach water on your touchable surfaces! First off...what I'd like to know...how do the parents know they and their child even have MRSA? Seems to me that if the parents had the required culture done to confirm MRSA...surely they would be under going treatment already and would know, from speaking with their doctor, that they would not be charged with child abuse. I am going to be very up front with you and call myself out. My daughter got MRSA from her day care provider. It was miserable for her, and I am sure that it is for your brother as well. Staph infections are spread through direct skin to skin contact. So your brother should not have anything to fear through seeking medical attention. A doctor will not look at him and demand to know where the child picked it up. The main thing is getting the child the medical attention that he/she needs. If he doesn't get the little one a doctor's help that is when he will need to worry about losing custody of him/her. This illness needs treatment and it needs it ASAP! Good luck, and I hope they both get better soon. |
