Mortality rate for MRSA? |
What is the mortality rate for MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus)? My friend is in his late 40's and has been hospitalized for this. He is diabetic, but does NOT take care of himself. The infection is in his lower leg and he has been hospitalized. Any information is appreciated. His wife always puts on a happy face, but I want to know how bad this really is. This is a serious infection if it is not taken care of promptly. People have died from it because they didn't see if for what it was and seek medical attention. Being diabetic your friend's immune system is low so he will be more prone to these type of infections if he does not take better care of himself. It's ironic but this infection was well known for being caught while in a hospital or in a nursing home type setting. Medical personnel are more conscientious of the way they treat patients now due to the potential spread. Below is a patient handout from the CDC. It's very general but gets too the point. |
