Effects of methamphetamine use and diabetes?

What can be the long term and immediate effects of smoking and injecting crystal meth for people with diabetes? can it be worse for a diabetic than others without this condition?

Yes. Diabetes in and of itself can cause early death, combining diabetes and crystal myth is asking for horrible diabetes complications and/or early death.

Three things come to mind:

1.) Any sort of stimulant can cause a severe and dangerous increase in blood glucose levels.
2.) A person with diabetes will not or cannot likely be taking care of his diabetes while high, leading to an increased risk of acute complications like coma and death, and long-term complications from organ damage.
3.) Diabetics (even young ones with Type 1) have an increased risk for heart disease and early death due to heart disease, much higher than someone the same age without diabetes. This is shown in many studies (Pub Med).
Adding a stimulant like meth to diabetes, which is very damaging to the heart, is asking for an increased risk of both sudden death and further damage. If the person already has diabetes complications, their risk of sudden death (i.e. heart attack, stroke) may be VERY high each time they use meth.

Meth is a nasty drug that is comprised of nasty toxic and damaging chemicals including drain cleaner. No parent wants their kid to end up like that, ingesting cheap cleaning chemicals. You/this person deserve better than to abuse your body that way. And that's what you are doing, especially with diabetes. Meth is a drug that is not harmless, it kills, and it ruins people's lives. If that isn't enough, know that meth will destroy your looks. Not many people look hot and healthy with "drain cleaner" in their veins...just a thought.

If you are tempted to try meth, just don't. Sorry to sound like an afterschool special, but it's the truth. If I can stop just ONE young person, it's worth it. Your body is already in a compromised state with diabetes, help it, not harm it. Take care of yourself, and you can live a good long life. Don't, and the future looks grim.
