Can you go from methadone to suboxone and be successful? I need to get off this methadone its not good!?

Ive been on methadone for 3yrs almost and I want to get off it because its becoming a inconvience in my everyday life. I still feel kinda dependant on something and craving things so Im wondering if I went to suboxone would that be better and faster to get off? I want to know more info first before I decide to talk to my methadone Dr further about it. I have to drive 4 days a wk to that place and basically cant afford it. I want to be totally drug free and not go back once I detox. Can someone give me some advice on doing this. How does it make you feel also can you feel it like methadone at all?

Hmmm...where to begin? Not sure why you're hesitant to talk to your doc about it. He or she may not know a lot about it though.
My sister has been on sub. for a couple of years. She sees her doc monthly; plus it's not a sched II narc so he can call her scrip in if necessary. It is a thousand times more convenient than methadone. I don't know if less $$ as her insurance covers it, so for her it's $20/mo. I believe her when she says that once she started sub. she has never wanted to pick up again. No serious temptation at all.
Suboxone docs used to be scarce in our area but not anymore (requires a special license to prescribe it).
She does bum out sometimes b/c of feeling dependent on it, but again, it's still not as bad as methadone, and definitely not as bad as using.
She says she got a mild buzz at first, but not at all after the first week. Also, it's strictly sub-lingual (under tongue) and it tastes gross.
She detoxed on methadone, but only over 7 days. No idea what switching from one to other would be like but I would encourage you to try. How can you get on with your life with having to go to clinic every day? That's about the most ridiculous system (don't get me started..), thank god they didn't do that with suboxone. If you feel at risk AT ALL at stopping methadone please go right to sub.
You have a lot of question, not sure if I've addressed them all. Oh, her doc says when going off, it will be a mild withdrawal, and she will gradually decrease her dose to nothing over a period of a month.
I wish you the best.

You should take suboxone.
It is nothing like methadone.
You don't get sick.
You get better in a day, no lie.
