Please tell me all the reasons Methadone is prescribed? IM TIRED OF EXPLAINING MYSELF.?

Recently I started seeing a pain specialist. He added Methadone to my prescriptions. I take pain meds, muscle relaxers, nerve meds, sleeping meds, high bp meds, siezure meds.and meds for anxiety/depression. I have many neurological problems such as Degenerative Disc Dis., Degenerative Joint Dis., Spinal Stenosis, Spurs in the cervical, thoracic.lumbar and sacral regions, Severe Encroachment of the lumbar/sacral for. Cauda Equina Syndrome, I also have meniscus tears in both knees ,bursitis in my rt hip, . Along with that Ihave Fibro Myalgia, Migraines, Epilepsy and High Blood Pressure. I dont like the fact that some people automaticly think Methadone is only for dope heads, junkies and the like. PLEASE help me educate the world about other uses for METHADONE !!!! I feel as if my family and friends think of me differently because I am taking Methadone. I take my medications as they are prescribed because without them I would have absolutely NO QUALITY OF LIFE. EDUCATE MY LOVED ONES!!!!!

I,too, take Methadone. It was prescribed for me by my pain management doctor. I had major back surgery in January and have had major complications from that surgery. I have been on constant narcotics since January. I started taking Methadone in May and it has helped me with the pain, but I also take several other narcotics along with that. My doctor prescribed Methadone in hopes to try and wean me off of some of the other medications I was on. Unfortunately, I ended back up on all of the medications, adding the Methadone to them. Now, I will have a pain pump implant done the second week of January. He is hoping that I will be able to wean myself off of all of the medications I am on now. The pain pump will be delivering straight Morphine into my spine, where I have severe nerve damage. He said I will be on Methadone for a while, because you have to slowly come off of it. I noticed that if I don't take my Methadone on a tight schedule, I will have seizures. I don't like being on all the drugs, but I have no choice. People, there are some of us who have to take these drugs because we have no choice. We are in pain 24/7. In the first place, for a doctor to prescribe Methadone, one has to be in severe pain! In my case, my doctors have all agreed with each other, that I am not faking my problems and that I am indeed in severe pain all of the time. They are doing the best they can to help control the pain, and that means taking a lot of narcotics. Please, back off of us! We are just trying to live as normal a life as we can. It is so hard for us to try and be as normal as we can, especially when we live with severe pain 24/7. If you really have a problem with us taking all of our medications, talk to our doctors yourselves. Maybe they can convince you that we really do have these problems. It is sad that you need to be convinced of anything. If you really loved us, you would not be questioning us. I get tired of having to explain myself to everyone. Just back off and let us try to ease our pain! Best of luck to you! Merry Christmas and I hope you have a Happy, Healthy and Safe New Year!

I am with you all the way on this 100%. If you need to talk or would like to email me for support, let me know. I will always be there for you. Let's try to educate these "stupid" people! Let me know if you want my email. Best of luck to you! Report It

If these people had to live just 1 day in our shoes, you can bet they would be begging for medicine. They could never make it in our shoes 24/7. They think they are so tough. I get tired of defending my medications. We can stick together on this! Report It

Darlin' I suspect part of the problem is that you feel you have to explain junkies....get that garbage out of your head.

The fact of the matter is that narcotics always have, and always will be pain relievers reserved for acute and chronic severe conditions. You shouldn't have to feel guilty because other people abuse them.

Be an example of someone who is using them responsibly - that will educate them far more than words.

It is effective for pain, but have you read the deaths connected to this medication.

Ask them because overdosing can be lethal.

It is not just for junkies! doctors use it for pain control. It has similar effects of morphine, but has longer duration, less constipation.
