Is methadone addicting?

i have a friend who got a big huge settlement after being in a car wreck. she eventually used up all her money from the settlement on buying methadone from a drug dealer. now she's hooked on it and has really bad withdrawls. is methadone really that addicting?

Heck yes. She will have to struggle to get off of it. It is used to treat heroin addicts. It basically is a lower step drug to heroin, some people are against it's use. Addiction is a horrible thing, and addicts will do anything to get their drug sometimes. You can only try and help her to get clean. She has to want it. Don't give her money or help her get her drugs. She can go to rehab, but if she doesn't want to quit it won't help. Addiction is a disease, remember that so you don't hate her for it, but also know that you can't change her, don't let her bring you down with her. If you have to move on then do so.

Yes, methadone is addictive. If I were you, I'd call up NA (Narcotics Annonymous) and ask about the suppoer group for families and friends. Attend some meetings... its all you can do.

This is another government 'goof'. A person can be detoxed off of heroin (in a supervised setting) in about five days. One who 'trades in' heroin for methadone may need to take it for his or her entire life.

Yes it is that addicting. Methadone has been used for many years to help people get off heroin, usually resulting in them needing to be on it for a very long time. Stopping it suddenly will make one just as sick as a heroin addict not getting their fix. The withdrawals are horrible.

Yes, and the with drawls make you weak and you can't move. You're bowels don't move like they should when you take them and when you're off for three days or so, they start moving, and you end up having painful shits.Its debilitating.and painful. All throughout your body is pain.She's hooked for now. With drawls take about three to four MONTHS. I watched my fiancee go thru it and he even said it was worse than heroin. A heroin with drawl lasts about 3- 4 days.
