Changed to a healthy diet, lots of water, not really losing weight?

I changed a tons of things around in my diet. Gave up caffeine and coffee, sugared sodas, white breads, pork, and buy the more expensive, less processed foods. I also drink lots of water and get more fruits and veggies. My calorie intake is likely less. I also do some moderate exercise regularly, like pushups and situps.

But I haven't really lost weight. I'm not obese or anything, but could lose 20 pounds. A doctor said I have metabolic syndrome, which is a combo of elevated blood pressure and lousy lipids/cholesterol.

My waist has gone from about a 40 to a 37, but my weight hasn't changed at all. Any ideas?

With the decrease in you waist size, I think you have probably added some muscle mass. Since muscle weighs more than fat, you can be healthier with a lower body fat ratio, with out actually loosing any weight. Keep up the diet and try increasing your exercise, maybe adding cardio/aerobic workouts. BTW an increased muscle mass should boost your resting metabolism.

Sounds like you might have put on some muscle if your weight is stable, your waist is smaller, your diet is better, and you've been doing resistance exercise. Keep it up and have some patience.

You might need to increase your protein intake to build more muscle.

how about some walking
