Where can i find out about the disease Mesothelioma?

Where can i find out about the disease Mesothelioma?

The first i had heared about Mesothelioma was 4 years ago when my partner was diagnosed with it. When he first left school he was exposed to aspestos within the industry he worked in. 25 years later he had the disease.
It was a very difficult time and not much information out there and i seemed to have a constant battle with the system to get help and information, but i never gave up, and did everything possible to make my partners life as comfortable as possible. I contacted the district nurses, macmillan nurses and specialists and got as much help and information as i could .

Of course 4 years on research and information is more readilly at hand and organisations seem to know a little more about this disease. There is lots of support out there but you may have to ask for it.

You also have legal rights against the industry where the disease was transmitted. Yes this does mean involving solicitors and courts, but the ones we used were specialists in this field and very sympathetic, they took a lot of the stress from us, and did as much of the work as they could themselves. It was to be done on a no win no fee basis, so we didnt have anything to lose.

I know you must be thinking money and suing companies is the last thing on your mind!We felt the same, initially. But as our solicitor pointed out our lifes had been turned upside down through lack of safety in past employment and now he could no longer go out to work or do any of the things he once loved doing through no fault of his own. I also gave up my job to care for him. My partner felt cheated to be struck down with this illness at such a young age that he felt someone should have to pay for this!

There is also disabilty allowance to be claimed and if you drive, a disabled badge. Your community nurse can advice you about all of these. Your lives will change enough without you having to worry about money and bills!

The website www.mesotheliomasource.org has a lot of information with everything i have explained and more. I wish you lots of luck and very best wishes to you and your family and i hope you find this website helpful. You can always contact me if you have any questions, i will do my best to help. Good luck

The Cancer Society can tell you about this condition and put you in touch with those who have it.
The most common cause I know of for this is contact with asbestos.

Thid is a malignant tumor involving the pleural surfaces of the lungs. Asbestos exposure has been linked to it.

Please see the webpages for more details on Mesothelioma (benign-fibrous) and Mesothelioma (malignant).
