Varying levels of mercury in fish.?

I have a big question, why do some sources say catfish and other fish are high in mercury while others say they are safe....

It depends on where the catfish is coming from actually. In some places the catfish are perfectly safe, in others it's just not worth even considering. It's one time where the farm raised fish is the safest choice. Mercury levels in catfish and trout caught wild can make them a real hazard to your health- while the farm raised fish is raised in special made ponds and the food is controlled. If you want to eat catfish you caught, you would do best to check with your local fish and wildlife department and health department to find out if the local fish is considered safe to eat.

may depend on the sea they were fished in. in any case, sea fish is more polluted that river fish, and the dose is actually so low that only huge portions are really harmful for you - as far as I remember.
