How Can I Deal when mental retardation patients get in an aggresive behavior??

My neighbor is a mental retardation patient. He have 27 years but his mental age is 5 or 6 years old. Sometime he gets very aggressive when he in front of danger and/or situations or when somebody tries to do the tasks as a father for example he dont like to take a shower like a regualr person and when you try to talk to him to go and take a shower he gets like a demon; he start to brake things and hurt himself and use obscene language every time that this happens. WHAT CAN I DO TO DEAL TO THIS SITUATION AS A NEIGHBOR?? Iam very tired and deeply sad with all this situation!! I will appreciate3 all the help you can give me

First of all, The correct term is mentally disabled. I have worked with many people who had mental disabilities. It can be very difficult to look at someone whose physical appearance is that of a 27 year old and remember that his mental age is substantially younger. You must understand that he really doesn't know how to deal with all his frustrations. It is very difficult for him to express himself in a manner which others can comprehend. Be patient and always remember that he is a person, too. The truth is most people with this type of disability are very intuitive and can sense when there is discord. Call the police or an asylum.If he is violent in public or towards anyone he needs to be contained.I know this from experiance.

Just try to be more understanding. He can't help it.

Realize that you are not responsible for him. Let whoever is tell him to take showers or whatnot & just minimalize your contact with him if he is aggressive & vile. Don't confront him about anything & if you fell something must be done take it to whoever is responsible for him. You are not his father & it sounds like you pick on him for reactions.
