Mental retardation question? |
I can shave, take a shower, go shopping for clothes and other merchandise, i can use public transportation, i passed my driving test, i gaduated from high school without any special education, i hold down a job, i can make transactions through my bank, i can cash a check, i can surf the internet, i can type reasonably fast, and i can have conversations with people, and i do all this WITHOUT ASSISTANCE; IS THERE ANY CHANCE THAT I COULD HAVE MILD RETARDATION, OR BORDERLINE RETARDATION. Serious answers only plz. Well I guess there is a chance. Do you feel that you are? You would have to be specific on some of the "normal" things that you can't do. It is probably more like an ADD thing.... It sounds like you're perfectly functional, but I suppose if you really wanted to know, you'd see your doctor and have some tests run. Mental retardation is the result of an actual disease, just like any other mental illness. If you think you do have such a disease, you might, but chances are, it's all in your head. No, it doesn't sound like you have a mental disability. But then, I've never heard you speak, I've never seen you walk, or hold a pencil. There is such thing as functional retardation. Talk to a doctor if you're really that concerned. Huh!!! Why would you think that? you sound fine to me: Mental retardation is based on IQ scores. Someone with an IQ of 70 and below is considered mentally retarded. In the 70's is considered to be borderline mentally retarded. We can't really know your mental capacity just by the fact that you can use the internet, but what you described doesn't sound like you have much trouble with your mental skills. NO you don't have mental retardation. To have the medical diagnosis of mental retardation, you must be under the age of eighteen and assessed by a psychologist in the five domains of life and based on an IQ under 70. It sounds like the feed back other people are giving you is like "your stupid or retarded" or your just feeling like you are. In the long run just cut yourself some slack. comparing yourself to others is a self defeating and not very positive. I try and just accept myself as human and OK. I am mentally disabled. Who cares? It's not a big deal unless you make it one. Best Wishes (your smarter than me)(smile) |
