How do you understanding mental illenss and mental retardation?

mental retardation is when one is growing without following the norm. the average person is between 80-110 of IQ (average score in tests,like Weschler Scales,Stanford-Binet test etc.).the person with mental retardation is below 75.
now,about mental illness,we're talking about a totally different situation.some of the sumptoms are alike,like in autism and schizophrenia or psychosis.mental illness is major depression,bipolar or dysthymic disorder,schizophrenia,conduct disorders, such as oppositional disorder or aggression etc.

You can study and learn as much as you can about it, but as far as making sense of why there is mental illness and retardation, it really doesn't make sense. Retardation is different than mental illness. I know being around people with retardation is a lot different than a mental illness, from my experiences anyway. They all deserve love though.

Retardation is a state when development does not go according to the average or norm. Illness is some form of deviation in a certain area. Both can be temporary.
