I suggest you enter "autism" - "downs syndrome" and "mental retardation" in your internet search engine and you should find some answers. Autism is an impairment in social interaction ranging in severity (The movie Rain Man was about an Autistic). It used to be thought that it was caused by parenting ie. parents who did not interact with their babies, but more recent research indicates this is not the case. The cause is unknown. Downs Syndrome is caused by an extra chromosone and mental retardation can be caused by a number of factors - brain injury at birth, down's syndrome etc. Look them up on the Internet for more information.
